NYC Arrival - 17 Jan 2012
(Jan 17, 2012)
We passed under the Verrazano Narrows Bridge approx 11:30 and were alongside at Pier 90 about an hour later. It was cold, wet [sleeting] and windy. Passengers were permitted out onto the raised bow area fwd on Deck 5 - it was bitter!
Photographs on board QUEEN ELIZABETH, before and after passing under the bridge, various vessels on the Hudson [for more of these please see http://public.fotki.com/Magwa/cruising/queen-elizabeth-jan-2012/seascapes-n-murky-s/ ] and views around and about. Lighthouses, Staten Island Ferries, CELEBRITY SILHOUETTE at Bayonne, the Statue of Liberty, Pier 40 [ex HAL berths now a football stadium], Erie Lackawanna Railway Terminal, Skylines etc. As you will see it was all pretty murky weather - 17 January 2012
For a movie clip of the approaches and passing under Verrazano Narrows bridge with whistles/horns blowing see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOE3GC83hto

Seascapes 'n Murky Ships - Jan 2012
(Jan 13, 2012)
A few sea/cloudscapes and some distant passing vessels mid Atlantic. CHARLESTON EXPRESS is one, but can you name the tanker and trawler :) - January 2012
MSC AUSTRIA at anchor [again murky & distant] in the Ambrose Channel. NEWLEAD COMPASSION, some with tug BARBARA McALLISTER anchored not far from Verrazano Narrows Bridge. ITAL ORIENTE passes by from under the bridge. MOUNT HOPE at anchor after the bridge and SHORTHORN EXPRESS bunkering. CHARLESTON at anchor & HERON bunkering off Bayonne - 17 Jan 2012
See short movie clip of some of the rough seas [F9 & F10] with the pool sloshing and QUEEN ELIZABETH creaking and rattling http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4W4n8pjZlkw
A very poor clip of CHARLESTON EXPRESS way off in the murk and wind of the Mid Atlantic, done before I discovered her name. You can however see how far off she was, not much else http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPV09-3NAwA

Broadway & Times Square - 17 Jan 2012
(Jan 17, 2012)
After finally berthing around an hour late and eventually passing through immigration [a 2 hour queue] it was 15:45 and not a lot of daylight left. Plans to cross on the Staten Island Ferry or visit USS INTREPID were scuppered due to the time and miserable weather, so we walked up to Broadway and along to Times Square, did a bit of shopping and then walked back to Pier 90 after a couple of hours. It only takes around 10 - 15 minutes and you can't get 'lost'. Here are just a few photos around Broadway and Times Square, then the Pier 90 sign lit up - 17 January 2012

Southampton & Sailaway - 10 Jan 2012
(Jan 10, 2012)
Views of Southampton Water from aboard QUEEN ELIZABETH on the day of our departure. INDEPENDENCE OF THE SEAS and QUEEN MARY 2 alongside. HMS DAUNTLESS at Marchwood, LADY NORA alongside and GRAN CANARIA CAR departs at twilight. IOTS sails off and we joined QUEEN MARY 2 for a firework display - however I have no photos of this as it was late and being already late for dinner I could not stay on deck any longer :( Photos of QM2 at night and the Lido Pool deck on QE on sailing - 10 January 2012

Games Deck, Pavilion Pool & Sputnik, QUEEN ELIZABETH - Jan 2012
(Jan 15, 2012)
The Games Deck forward on Deck 11 is sheltered by glass screens from the wind and an awning above. Makes things pretty awkward for taking photographs. Only a small portion of the bow is visible fwd as the bridge roof is in the way. The mast is obscured by the awning.
However, one can enjoy Paddle Tennis, Croquet and Bowls [Short Mat] on synthetic grass amongst plastic foliage. There are some lovely ceramic tiled pictures from the Morandi Studio around the mast by Norman Wilkinson, Henry George Gawthorn & others along with 'Golden Age of Cruising' images from Maurizio Eliseo [These are also prominent fwd of the Pavilion Pool]. Stairs to fwd port lead down to the Commodore Club.
Set in a box welded to the mast are the three Lucky Coins - a 1938 half crown (the year the first Queen Elizabeth was launched); a 1967 sovereign (the year QE2 was launched) and a 2010 sovereign for the new Queen Elizabeth's float out 5 Jan 2010.
Above the Yacht Club is 'Sputnik' - the Giant Chess Set.
The Pavilion Pool area is below on Deck 9 between the Royal Spa and Garden Lounge. 2 Jacuzzis, which some people did use, but it was too rough for the pool and it was eventually emptied. Two Table Tennis Tables are located near the Royal Spa/Beauty Salon entrance, fwd port, along with a route map of QE's current voyage. There is a thalassotherapy pool next to here through the windows pictures, but I did not go in there, looked busy - January 2012
See short movie clip of some of the seas [F9 & F10] with the pool sloshing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4W4n8pjZlkw

Grill Guest Deck Areas, QUEEN ELIZABETH - Jan 2012
(Jan 15, 2012)
A rather large proportion of the outdoor deck seems to be for Grill Guests only. Up from Deck 10 port midships to The Terrace, Deck 11 in front of the Grills Lounge has a number of chairs, tables and loungers. On up to Deck 12 and The Grills Terrace. A large expanse of deck surrounding the satellite navigation equipment and 3 sides of the funnel [not the aft area]. In the centre one can look down on the sheltered Courtyard between the two Grill Restaurants [Princess Grill to stb and Queens Grill to port, only exterior photos].
Forward on this area is a raised View Point with telescope, but oddly a few feet ahead and at a slightly lower level is a CCTV camera set on the railings pointed at the funnel behind... anyone using the telescope must be in full view - January 2012
